WASHINGTON, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Olaf Kolzig recorded his first shutout of the season and Jeff Halpern and Ulf Dahlen each picked up a goal and an assist Saturday night as the Washington Capitals snapped a six-game winless streak with a 3-0 blanking of the reeling Atlanta Thrashers.

Kolzig made 34 saves to halt a personal six-game winless drought (0-5-1), posting his 22nd career shutout.

The Capitals tied a team record for fastest two goals when Halpern and Chris Simon scored six seconds apart 5 1/2 minutes into the first period.

Dahlen extended Washington's lead to 3-0 at 5:33 of the second period with his seventh goal.

The Thrashers were shut out for the third time in four games and have lost seven straight. They were none for seven on the power play and have not scored a goal of any kind in more than 175 minutes.

Atlanta completes a disastrous seven-game road trip Tuesday in Minnesota.

Recalled from the American Hockey League on Friday, Norm Maracle stopped 17 shots in his season debut for the Thrashers.
