Martin fails to qualify at PGA School

SEASIDE, Calif., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Casey Martin, who sued to use a cart in competition, failed to make it out of the second stage of the PGA Tour's National Qualifying Tournament on Friday.

That means Martin will not be able to play on the PGA Tour or Buy.com Tour in 2001.

Martin was seeking one of the 20 spots available at the Black Horse Course to move in to the final stage of Q-School later this month.

Only those that make it to the final stage from November 28-December 3 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., can earn PGA Tour cards for 2002.

In May, the United States Supreme Court sided with Martin, ruling the disabled golfer has the right to use a golf cart during PGA Tour events.

Martin suffers from a painful circulatory disorder in his right leg and is unable to compete without using a cart, which the PGA Tour had claimed gives a golfers an unfair advantage.
