Oklahoma's White lost for season

NORMAN, Okla., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- After being hampered in practice by a sprained left knee, Oklahoma quarterback Jason White will undergo season-ending surgery sometime next week, the school announced on Friday.

White suffered the injury during the second quarter of Oklahoma's loss at Nebraska on Oct. 27.

The Daily Oklahoma reported then that White had suffered a torn ACL and would require season-ending surgery.Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops confirmed that White had a sprained ACL, and did not rule out the possibility he could return.

Nate Hybl returned as the starter last week in White's absence and passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns in Oklahoma's 58-0 rout of Tulsa.

White returned to practice this past week, but was bothered by stiffness in the knee and decided to have the surgery.

Hybl was Oklahoma's starter for the first six games of the season, but was benched prior to Oklahoma's game against Baylor on October 20 due to inconsistent play.

White impressed in relief of Hybl in victories over Texas and Kansas and started against Baylor and Nebraska before injuring the knee.

White completed 73-of-113 passes for 681 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions and rushed for 164 yards and a score.

The fourth-ranked Sooners (8-1), third in the Bowl Championship Series poll, host Texas A&M on Saturday.
