St. Louis 3, Vancouver 1

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Al MacInnis, who owns one of the most feared slap shots in NHL history, used a little change of pace to break a second-period tie THursday night as the St. Louis Blues rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

MacInnis' goal with 64 seconds left in the second period put the Blues ahead for good. After faking a slapper from the left point, he moved in a stride and flipped a wrister that caromed off Canucks defenseman Scott Lachance in front of the net and got by helpless goaltender Dan Cloutier.

A former Norris Trophy winner, MacInnis also picked up an assist, giving him 98 points in 108 games against Vancouver.

Pavol Demitra scored his second goal of the game into an empty net with one minute to play in the third period as St. Louis improved to 3-1 on a five-game homestand.

Markus Naslund had the lone goal for the Canucks, who have lost six of their last seven on the road.
