Mavs activate Najera, Eschmeyer on IL

DALLAS, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The Dallas Mavericks activated forward Eduardo Najera on Thursday and placed center Evan Eschmeyer on the injured list.

The 6-8 Najera, a native of Mexico, is in his second season. He missed the first five games with left knee tendinitis. Last season, Najera averaged 3.3 points and 2.4 rebounds in 40 games.

The 6-11 Eschmeyer has a sprained left ankle. He was off to a slow start in his first season with the Mavericks, collecting just two points and six rebounds in three games.

Eschmeyer spent two seasons with the New Jersey Nets before signing a six-year, $34 million contract as a free agent during the offseason. He was expected to back up Shawn Bradley, but the Mavs have been using Dirk Nowitzki at center, which has limited Eschmeyer's minutes.
