San Jose 4, Anaheim 2

, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Paul Kariya ended the longest goalless drought of his career, but it was not enough for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as Marco Sturm scored twice to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 4-2 victory Wednesday night.

Kariya went 10 games without a goal after tallying in Anaheim's season-opening 4-2 loss at Boston on Oct. 4. The All-Star left winger ended the drought while the Mighty Ducks were on the power play. Stationed in the left faceoff circle, Kariya got a pass from Steve Rucchin and ripped a slap shot past goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to tie the score, 2-2, at 7:16 of the second period.

But Kariya's former linemate Teemu Selanne set up Marcus Ragnarsson's goal that gave San Jose a 3-2 edge with 10:28 remaining in the second. Ragnarsson was in the slot and ripped a one-timer by former San Jose goaltender Steve Shields for his second goal of the season.

Selanne has three goals and two assists in three wins against the Mighty Ducks since Anaheim sent him to San Jose for left wing Jeff Friesen and Shields on March 5.
