Detroit 4, Columbus 3

DETROIT, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Sergei Federov had his third multi-point game of the season and scored the eventual game-winner 6:13 into the third period Tuesday night as the Detroit Red Wings kept the Columbus Blue Jackets winless, hanging on for a 4-3 triumph.

Brendan Shanahan continued his hot start with another goal-- his eighth to go with three assists--as Detroit improved to 5-1-0 all-time against Columbus, which has yet to win at Joe Louis Arena.

Fedorov's third goal of the season gave the Red Wings a 4-1 lead, but Columbus got goals from Tyler Wright and defenseman Deron Quint on its second and third shots 3:01 apart in the final period. The Blue Jackets had only four shots in the period and 22 for the game.

They put little pressure on Dominik Hasek the rest of the way. After pulling goaltender Marc Denis with a minute to play, Columbus spent little time in the offensive zone and fell to 0-2-4 this season.
