Cubs promote Hendry

CHICAGO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Jim Hendry, who has been the Chicago Cubs' assistant general manager since August 2000,was promoted to vice president of player personnel Thursday.

In his seventh year in the organization, the 46-year-old Hendry joined the Cubs in November 1994 as director of player development. After one year, he took over as the club's scouting director.

In his new role Hendry will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the team and oversee the minor league and scouting departments. Prior to working for the Cubs, he spent three years in the Florida Marlins' organization as a special assistant to general manager Dave Dombrowski.

Hendry was the baseball coach at Creighton University from 1984-1991, leading the Blue Jays to a record of 282-171-2 and two NCAA tournament appearances.
