Ottawa 2, Florida 0

SUNRISE, Fla., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jani Hurme stopped a pair of breakaways and made 36 saves in his first start of the season Wednesday night to backstop the Ottawa Senators to their second road win in as many nights, 2-0 over the Florida Panthers.

Four nights after Chris Osgood of the New York Islanders blanked Florida in its home opener, Hurme proved unbeatable for the Senators. He denied Ryan Johnson and Valeri Bure on consecutive breakaways in a 41-second span late in the second period, then kicked out his left pad early in the third to stop rookie Niklas Hagman's rebound.

Hurme turned aside 11 shots in each of the first two periods and 14 in the third en route to his third career shutout.

Martin Havlat and Daniel Alfredsson took care of the offense for Ottawa, which has posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Havlat struck on the power play just 90 seconds into the first period for his third goal in two games and Alfredsson beat the clock at the end of the second.

Panthers starter Roberto Luongo lasted just 3:47 and left after suffering a lacerated right forearm after he was cut by Bure. Trevor Kidd nearly matched Hurme but could not prevent Florida from falling to 1-3-0.
