Detroit 101, Cleveland 77

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Jerry Stackhouse scored 20 points Tuesday night to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 101-77 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the exhibition opener for both teams.

The game marked the debut of Pistons coach Rick Carlisle and new Cavaliers coach John Lucas.

Stackhouse appeared to be carrying an additional 10-15 pounds of bulk from last season, when he was second in the NBA in scoring at 29.8 points per game.

Ben Wallace added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Pistons. First-round pick Rodney White added 10 points on 5-for-11 shooting and pulled down six rebounds in 19 minutes.

Jon Barry and Chucky Atkins each chipped in 12 points for the Pistons, who led by as much as 32 points late in the fourth quarter.

Cleveland's Andre Miller scored 13 of his 17 points from the foul line. Chris Mihm scored 13 points and Jumaine Jones added 10 for the Cavaliers. Jones was acquired from Philadelphia in a five-player deal during the offseason.

First-round pick Desagana Diop did not play for the Cavs due to a stress reaction in his left foot.
