Philadelphia 2, Cincinnati 1

CINCINNATI, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Reds established a franchise record for home losses in a season Saturday as Omar Daal pitched seven scoreless innings, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader

Cincinnati fell to 27-52 at Cinergy Field. That broke the team record for home losses, established when the club lost 51 times while playing at Crosley Field in 1937.

Daal (13-7), a 19-game loser last season, had something to do with the Reds' latest home loss. The crafty lefthander surrendered just three hits, walking none while striking out three.

Ricky Bottalico allowed a run in the eighth before Jose Mesa worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his 41st save in 45 chances.

Tomas Perez had a career-high three hits for Philadelphia, which clinched second place in the National League East.

Reds starter Elmer Dessens (10-14) gave up two runs and nine hits over seven innings. The righthander walked three and struck out two.
