FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A flat tire by leader Scott Riggs with five laps remaining allowed rookie Travis Kvapil to claim his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory in the Chevy Silverado 350 at Texas Motor Speedway.

First, Ted Musgrave had a right front tire go flat with seven laps left while running second. Then teammate Riggs had his right front tire go flat five laps from the checkered flag. That allowed Kvapil to drive his Chevrolet to his first win.

"The team never gave up. We struggled early in the race, kept digging on pit stops and the chassis was just awesome," said Kvapil, a 25-year-old from Janesville, Wisconsin. "It's awesome to get that first victory here in Texas.

"We made mistakes last week, nobody got down, we came in and kicked some butt tonight."

Kvapil finished 0.501 seconds in front of Rick Crawford's Ford. He averaged 112.02 miles per hour and won $59,685.

Jack Sprague was third, followed by Irving native David Starr and Lance Norick. All three drove Chevrolets.

Sprague increased his series-leading point total to 3,240 and widened his lead to 64 points over Joe Ruttman, who finished eighth in a Dodge.
