NEW ORLEANS, July 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has signed a deal with Textron Marine and Land Systems for the delivery of additional armored security vehicles.
U.S. company Textron announced it has signed a new letter contract with the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. Under the approximately $200 million deal, Textron will deliver an additional 191 of its 4X4 wheeled M1117 armored security vehicles.
The contract also includes a delivery of 38 of the company's M1200 Armored Knight vehicles along with additional service and support requirements. The Textron armored vehicle systems are part of an effort by the Army to protect troops from land mines and other explosive threats during operations.
"This new contract is a continuing testament to the capability of the armored security vehicles and the people here at Textron Marine and Land Systems that dedicate themselves to building this highly mobile and survivable vehicle," Tom Walmsley, Textron Marine and Land Systems general manager, said in a statement.
"The armored security vehicle has been outstanding in protecting our troops in military operations around the world, has demonstrated an excellent readiness rate, and has a proven maintenance record in some of the most difficult combat situations in the world."
