WOOMERA, Australia, July 20 (UPI) -- BAE Systems announced the successful completion of flight trials of its Echidna technology with the Australian Defense Materiel Organization.
British company BAE says its Echidna 2A Electronic Warfare Self Protection system successfully completed flight trials integrated into a BAE Systems-designed flight test pod mounted on a Lear jet.
The Echidna 2A EWSP, a system that includes radar and missile warning receivers and countermeasures dispensing technologies, is under development to protect Australian Army's fleet of Black Hawk helicopters
"We were very pleased with the outcome of the two test flights," Graeme Bent, BAE Systems Echidna program manager, said in a statement.
"All test objectives were achieved. This will lead to actual flight trials on a Black Hawk in the last quarter of 2009."
