GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 8 (UPI) -- U.S. company GE Aviation announced initial flight tests of its Electro-Optical Grid Reference System have been successfully completed.
GE Aviation recently conducted initial flight testing of its EOGRS technology for aerial refueling applications using an Omega Aerial Refueling Services K-707 tanker.
Following the tests, GE Aviation officials say probe and drogue or boom and receptacle automatic aerial refueling techniques of manned or unmanned aircraft with its EOGRS grid navigation system are on target.
"These flight tests validate our technology for refueling drogue stabilization as well as positioning of aircraft in the vicinity of the tanker," Lorraine Bolsinger, GE Aviation Systems president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"This marks the first use of GE proprietary laser grid technology and positions us to continue to advance state-of-the-art aerial refueling technology."
