FAIRFAX, Va., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) has selected Lockheed Martin MS2 to support the company as part of a deal with the U.S. Navy's Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program.

U.S. company General Dynamics says its Advanced Information Systems subsidiary contracted Lockheed Martin for its high-gain, high-sensitivity subsystem technologies.

Under a $36 million deal, Lockheed Martin will provide its HGHS subsystem as part of a contract with the Navy in support of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, Block 1 program.

Officials say the SEWIP Block 1 program is an initiative to upgrade the threat detection technologies for the Navy's Anti-Ship Missile Defense system.

"This is an example of General Dynamics' commitment to an open business model where we use competition to find the best ideas that industry has to offer," Mike Tweed-Kent, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems vice president and general manager of integrated combat systems, said in a statement.
