U.S. company Alion was awarded $2 million from the Naval Surface Warfare Center to support Navy ship programs with explosion testing as part of an Advanced Materials, Manufacturing and Testing Information Analysis Center contract.
During the three-year contract, Alion will provide explosion modeling, simulation and engineering support for the Navy's DDG 1000 multi-mission surface combatant program.
"Alion's subject matter expertise and test capabilities will assist NSWC to support the DDG 1000 program within budget and on schedule, helping to make the new DDG 1000 ship an affordable, survivable and critical asset to the nation's defense systems," Kevin Lees, Alion senior vice president and manager of the acquisition programs management group, said in a statement.
