New Jersey-based OPT, as part of a contract with the Navy, installed an autonomous PowerBuoy system off the coast of New Jersey in support of the Navy's Deep Water Active Detection System program.

The ocean data-gathering technology is designed to track vessels in the region and to perform other homeland security monitoring applications. Officials say the OPT PowerBuoy is being ocean-tested by the Navy as a potential power source for the DWADS program.

"We are very pleased to be a part of this important Navy program," George Taylor, OPT chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"The advanced control features and proven longevity of the PowerBuoy will make an important contribution to the success of the Navy's initiatives."
