Army Research Laboratory developed a hybrid metal matrix composite armor. Under the announced cooperative agreement, Massachusetts-based CPS will further develop the manufacturing system for the production of large modules of the HybridTech metal matrix composite as part of the Defense Department Manufacturing Technology Program.
"CPS HybridTech armor materials offer a lightweight, multi-hit-capable and cost-competitive alternative to conventional steel, aluminum and ceramic-based armor systems," the release said.
The agreement is worth $1 million over the base year and includes options for up to four additional years.
