New York-based Ultralife received a $7 million order as part of a five-year, $30 million contract with Ultralife's RedBlack Communications unit to continue work on the Communication Switch Subsystem for the Air Force's BCS-M program.

Communications Switch Subsystem is a voice communication technology that provides multiple operators from a fixed workstation at the BCS-M system ground theater air command, control and reporting center the capability to use "radio, telephonic and intercom networks in both classified and unclassified modes," the release said.

With the Air Force, Ultralife's RedBlack Communications unit contract will be extended to December 2010.

"This order and contract extension is a direct reflection of the quality products, systems engineering and technical services that our RedBlack Communications team provides to the Defense Department," John Kavazanjian, Ultralife president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
