CENTCOM contracts for logistics support

FAIRFAX, Va., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) Information Technology has been contracted to supply the U.S. Central Command's Southwest Asia area of responsibility with engineering support.

U.S. company General Dynamics received a five-year, $32.5 million deal to support the U.S. 1st Theater Sustainment Command with engineering and professional services. The 1st Theater Sustainment Command establishes procurement services that support CENTCOM Army Central Command's Southwest Asia area of responsibility.

As part of the deal, General Dynamics will provide inventory and supply-chain operations support including Standard Army Retail Supply System logistics analysis, among other requirements.

"General Dynamics' expertise in logistical management, planning and forecasting will enable the 1st Theater Sustainment Command to give in-theater commanders improved access to real-time inventory information, data and analysis that is pivotal to military efforts," Zannie Smith, General Dynamics Information Technology vice president and general manager of Army solutions, said in a statement.

"General Dynamics works shoulder-to-shoulder with soldiers abroad, providing rapid and easy access to information, regardless of the environment or terrain."
