New York-based CryptoMetrics was contracted by the UAE Ministry of Interior to install a face-recognition technology for Abu Dhabi airport's wanted person detection system.
Officials say implementation of CryptoMetrics' face recognition technologies is part of an overall effort to deploy the security system at all of the UAE points of entry. Officials say the wanted person warning system will add additional protections to the UAE by preventing potential threats from entering the country.
"This is a historic development not only for the United Arab Emirates and CryptoMetrics, but also for the use of facial recognition technology," Robert Barra, CryptoMetrics chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"CryptoMetrics' facial recognition technology was chosen as the superior solution from among 18 companies who presented their biometric technology to the government of the United Arab Emirates. This will pave the way for the most heightened level of safety and security throughout the Middle East."
