WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Accenture has been awarded a contract extension for continued support of the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology program.

Under the deal, Accenture will continue to lead a contractor team for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's U.S.-VISIT program. Officials say Accenture, originally contracted for the U.S.-VISIT program when it was created in 2003, will support the border management biometric identification and analysis.

The U.S.-VISIT program is designed to help the law enforcement and intelligence communities identify and assess potential security threats along U.S. borders through deployment of the 10-finger digital fingerprint program and photographs, among other initiatives.

"The U.S.-VISIT program will evolve over time with increasingly robust biometric technologies and interoperability with other countries' systems," Jerry Briggs, Accenture U.S. federal practice managing director, said in a statement.

"Accenture shares DHS's commitment to providing biometric identity management services to its customers and will continue seeking innovative ways to deploy technologies and strategies that help make the program a success."
