NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has selected L-3 Communications as one of 12 prime contractors that will support weapons system programs.

L-3 was selected to support the Air Force Future, Flexible Acquisition and Sustainment Tool program. Under the F2AST program, worth $6.9 billion, L-3 will support Air Force-managed weapons systems with development, repairs and modifications, among other requirements.

L-3 is one of 12 prime contractors, which also include Raytheon and Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT), selected for F2AST program contracts. Company officials say their weapons system support will also include the Air Force Special Operations Forces systems and Foreign Military Sales technology platforms.

"Winning as a prime contractor for F2AST demonstrates the cumulative strength of L-3 Integrated Systems to provide broad domain aerospace engineering expertise, aircraft modification and logistics support capabilities to our military customers," Alison Hartley, L-3 Integrated Systems senior vice president of business development, said in a statement.
