NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has selected L-3 Communications as one of 12 prime contractors that will support weapons system programs.

L-3 was selected to support the Air Force Future, Flexible Acquisition and Sustainment Tool program. Under the F2AST program, worth $6.9 billion, L-3 will support Air Force-managed weapons systems with development, repairs and modifications, among other requirements.

L-3 is one of 12 prime contractors, which also include Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, selected for F2AST program contracts. Company officials say their weapons system support will also include the Air Force Special Operations Forces systems and Foreign Military Sales technology platforms.

"Winning as a prime contractor for F2AST demonstrates the cumulative strength of L-3 Integrated Systems to provide broad domain aerospace engineering expertise, aircraft modification and logistics support capabilities to our military customers," Alison Hartley, L-3 Integrated Systems senior vice president of business development, said in a statement.
