MIAMI, July 22 (UPI) -- Florida-based Radiation Shield Technologies' new Demron-W protective fabric has received a National Fire Protection Association class two certification.
RST's Demron-W, designed to improve on the company's original Demron nuclear-radiation protection material, passed the NFPA testing, which certifies the material for emergency responders to use during chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents.
The testing, conducted by Illinois-based Underwriters Laboratories, involved subjecting the Demron-W fabric to several chemical warfare agents for permeation resistance. With the certification, RST says the Demron-W marks the first protective ensemble for all types of CBRN incidents.
"Our military and first responders traditionally have had to choose what protective suit to wear according to the specific threat they faced, and our new Demron-W suits eliminate the guesswork by providing complete protection from all types of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards," Ronald DeMeo, RST president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
