ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 8 (UPI) -- VSE Corp. (NASDAQ:VSEC) has been subcontracted to join a team supporting the U.S. Army's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate.

VSE was awarded the deal by prime contractor Sentel Corp. to provide the team with logistics, engineering, prototyping and fabrication support services.

Officials say with the subcontractor status, VSE, a professional services company for the U.S. government, will also be eligible to compete for tasks under an approximately $487 million award from the Army NVESD.

"VSE will help our Army client maximize the operational capability and efficiency of NVESD by providing personnel with required skill levels and expertise to supplement and enhance the existing government workforce in conducting NVESD research and development efforts," Mo Gauthier, VSE chief executive officer and president, said in a statement.
