NASHUA, N.H., July 1 (UPI) -- British company BAE Systems has partnered with Micromem Applied Sensor Technologies to develop nano-sensors for defense applications.

BAE Systems' New Hampshire-based Microelectronics Center will work with Micromem under a foundry and business development partnership to further advance magnetic random-access memory technologies for the homeland security and defense markets. Officials say the two companies will work together to begin production of gallium arsenide-based nano-sensors.

The technology under development is an effort to offer high-speed nano-sensors with low-power capability and radiation-hardness.

"Foundry facilities are very expensive, and development work on new products is highly capital-intensive," Gino Manzo, BAE Systems in Nashua foundry director, said in a statement.

"This arrangement will advance technology and design maturity for products developed by Micromem by giving both companies the means to produce devices for a wide range of commercial and military uses."
