ST. LOUIS, May 7 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) says it has contracted LaBarge Inc. (AMEX:LB) to support the TPS-79 Multi-Mission Surveillance Radar system.

The announced $1.6 million award for St. Louis-based LaBarge is for the company to supply its circuit card assembly technologies to the Lockheed Martin TPS-79 MMSR radar systems program.

The new TPS-79 MMSR short- to mid-range airspace surveillance system "is a mobile, medium-range, air surveillance radar that can provide critical surface and low-altitude air coverage for military air defense, air traffic control or coastal surveillance missions," the release said.

Officials say the TPS-79 MMSR is capable of being deployed in less than 60 minutes.

LaBarge, an electronic and electromechanical products developer, says it plans to manufacture the TPS-79 MMSR circuit card assemblies at the company's Oklahoma facility.
