CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Florida-based BlastGard International announced the launch of a public transportation center explosives removal technology.

BlastGard announced the release of a mobile suspect package removal unit, the BlastGard MBR Gard Cart, which includes the BlastGard MBR 300. Company officials say the new technology is an effort to respond to the increased security demands of transportation centers as a result of their growing status as a soft target for terrorists. The MBR Gard Cart offers a tool to safely remove explosive devices if they are discovered.

"Over the past year the company has been diligently developing new products that leverage our core technology and that can be niche marketed thereby significantly reducing the long sales cycle we have faced in the past," Andrew McKinnon, BlastGard chief executive officer, said in a statement. "We have identified two primary markets for this product, airports and rail transport hubs and stations which of course history has shown to be the most vulnerable to bomb or improvised explosive attacks.

"Effective security includes not only deterrent and preventive measures but all efforts to mitigate casualties, damage, and disruption. The MBR Gard Cart is an ideal pre-incident security technology for airport and rail transport security when dealing with bomb threats and suspicious objects or packages.

Officials say the MBR Gard Cart is capable of containing lethal detonation threats when a suspect package or device is discovered, removing it from public exposure until emergency response bomb specialists arrive.
