ASEAN police confer on bioterrorism

JAKARTA, July 13 (UPI) -- Police from countries belonging to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, have met in Indonesia to discuss the threat of bioterrorism.
Antara, the Indonesian national news agency, quoted National Police spokesman Senior Cmdr. Bambang Kuncoko as saying biological terrorism experts from Interpol, the international police organization, took part in the two-day meeting in Jakarta.
ASEAN is an economic and political group of Asian states originally established by five countries in 1967. Its current membership: Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei Darussalam.
Additional details about the meeting were not disclosed. The meeting began Thursday.
