LCS mine module on time and on budget

WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A mine warfare mission module for the U.S. Navy's first Littoral Combat Ship will be completed on time, the Navy Times reported Monday.

Capt. Mike Good, program executive officer for littoral and mine warfare at Naval Sea Systems Command, told reporters Monday that the module would be delivered this summer. He was speaking before the beginning of the Surface Navy Association National Symposium outside Washington, the newspaper said.

"Good said the mine warfare mission module will be delivered to Naval Surface Warfare Center in Panama City, Fla." where the LCS Freedom would take it on board, the Navy Times said.

Capt. Good also told the reporters that the U.S. Navy's mine warfare module program was proceeding on schedule and that it remained within its allotted budget.

"I am on track. We're tracking along. Nothing has fallen off the table," the Navy Times quoted him as saying.

"The LCS concept uses transportable modules installed on the ship depending on the mission," the Navy Times said. "Modules for surface warfare and antisubmarine warfare are also being developed."
