Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Amazon has introduced a new, lighter and faster Android tablet.

The new Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX include new enterprise and productivity features as well as Fire OS 3.0, Amazon's forked version of the Android OS, as a revamped software platform.

The Fire HDX has an 8.9 inch HDX display and is 34 percent lighter than its predecessor weighing in at 13.2oz. The tablet comes in three different sizes: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB and is introducing a "Mayday" button that connects for free to an Amazon customer service agent 24/7.

The new tablet comes with built-in OfficeSuite, plus e-mail and calendar support for Gmail and Outlook and it looks to be more business-friendly.

“Kindle Fire is already the second most popular tablet at work in the U.S.,” said Raghu Murthi, Vice President of Enterprise and Education, Amazon. “As employees increasingly bring their own devices to work, the new Kindle Fire tablets can be easily integrated into the workplace with the new enterprise features, including encryption, secure Wi-Fi, a native VPN client, integration with leading MDM solutions, and Kerberos support for Intranet access.”

Starting at $379, the new Fire HDX is available for pre-order starting Wednesday at www.amazon.com/hdx.
