Sept. 3 (UPI) -- One week out from the rumored date of the unveiling of the new iPhone, Apple has sent out the event's official invitations.

The announcement officially confirms the date -- September 10, at 10 a.m. Pacific -- for the big moment.

In typically cryptic fashion, the invitation shows the white Apple logo, surrounded by bright circles in many colors. "This should brighten everyone's day," it reads.

Represented are all the colors expected for the roll-out of the new inexpensive iPhone, the so-called iPhone 5C, which leaked images show to have a plastic casing in white, yellow, green, orange and blue.

(The invitation also has purple and pink circles.)

Also shown are thin, gray circles, which some have taken as proof of the rumored fingerprint scanner, which is expected to embedded in the phone's 'home' button.

Others suggested the champagne bubble-like pattern is indeed a confirmation that Apple would unveil a gold option for the new flagship iPhone, which has been described as "champagne, not ingot."

Still, commenters have poked fun at Apple's habit of embedding hints in deliberately enigmatic announcements, and the propensity of tech geeks to read everything and nothing into such messages.

"The suggestion of a bokeh background tells us that Apple is actually relocating its headquarters to Boca Raton, Florida," wrote one commenter.

"No, no, no it means that Roy Lichtenstein is being resurrected and given Jony Ives' old job. Bring on the benday dots," added another.

One even joked the circles bore an uncanny resemblance to prophylactics.

But jokes aside, all the rumors, leaks and speculation will come to an end next week, with the coveted devices launching a week or so after that.
