CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- There's a security flaw in certain kinds of software that makes many web connected devices like smart thermostats, security cameras and more vulnerable.

It's called "Shellshock" and the flaw allows the user to gain remote control of a computer or system.

The problems affects devices running Linux and Unix operating systems and Apple's OS X.

That's the operating system used on Apple's MacBook laptops, iMac, Mac Pro and Mac Mini desktop computers.

Apple released this statement explaining most OS X users don't have anything to worry about:

The vast majority of OS X users are not at risk. ... With OS X, systems are safe by default and not exposed to remote exploits of bash unless users configure advanced UNIX services. We are working to quickly provide a software update for our advanced UNIX users.

Apple provided that update Monday night.

So far it has not been released in the App store.
