PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A new report has many people worried about how much Facebook's Messenger App is tracking.

According to security researcher Jonathon Zdziarski, "Messenger appears to have more spyware type code in it than I've seen in products intended specifically for enterprise surveillance."

Zdziarski also said, "There is a lot of code that suggests Facebook is running analytics on nearly everything it possibly can monitor on your device."

Facebook raised the ire of its users this summer when it made them download a separate app for messages.

An engineer for the Messenger App responded to Zdziarski's claims saying that Facebook used the analytics to "make the app faster and more efficient."

Facebook also responded. The company said, "These accusations are completely unjustified. Privacy is core to our approach with Messenger, and like any developer, we analyze usage trends to make our apps better, faster, and more efficient."
