Acer announces new Chromebook computer with touch screen

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Acer unveiled its first touch-screen Chromebook Tuesday, aimed at users comfortable with the touch and swipe paradigm of interacting with a computer.

he display of the C720P computer "allows customers to use gestures such as swipe, tap and pinch to zoom to interact in a natural way with the Chromebook so they can better enjoy educational apps, browse websites, scroll through Google Docs, play games and more," Acer said in the announcement of the 11.6-inch display computer.

At 0.78 inches thick and weighing 2.98 pounds, the C720P will go on sale in early December at Amazon.com, Best Buy, and the Acer Store for $299.99, PC Magazine reported.

Acer said the C720P, with an Intel Celeron 2955U processor and 32GB SSD, will boot up in less than 7 seconds and wake quickly from sleep mode.

The new device is a companion to the Acer C720 Chromebook, which is priced at $249 but does not feature a touch screen.
