PARIS, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Automaker Nissan says it will unveil a concept car in Paris this month featuring a removable tablet that serves as the vehicle's dashboard instrumentation.

The Japanese car maker said its Terra SUV concept vehicle, to be shown Sept. 27 at the Paris Motor Show, employs a removable tablet computer that drivers will have to dock on the dashboard before the car can be driven, when the tablet will show a speedometer and energy usage of the electric-powered Terra, TabTimes.com reported.

While driving the dashboard can also serve as an infotainment center, Nissan said, while displaying vehicle information in a side-by-side display format.

Automakers have begun to increasingly embrace tablet technology, with French manufacturer Renault showing a tablet GPS system for vehicles.

Tablets have been used as sales tools, as well; both Kia and Cadillac have been offering customers free tablets as an incentive to purchase vehicles.
