Mississippians keep dropping iPhones

JACKSON, Miss., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Mississippians have earned the dubious honor of being the most ham-fisted when it comes to handling their iPhones, research by a warranty company indicates.

Warranty provider SquareTrade said the state was No. 1 in its study of everyday consumer iPhone breaks and damages, The Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported Thursday.

And when it came to damaged iPads, SquareTrade said, Mississippi was No. 2, behind only South Carolina.

The majority of incidents of damage to iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad come from simple accidents, the study found.

"At SquareTrade, we've found most devices fail due to drops and spills," Ty Shay, chief marketing officer, said. "Replacing these broken devices that are now an integral part of our lifestyle costs customers a lot of money."

While a new glass screen is not cheap at around $90, it's considerably less than the cost of replacing the whole device and is usually quick to do.

"It usually takes about 20 minutes," said Jared Solomon, who worked with iCracked, an online business that sells do-it-yourself repair kits or puts customers in touch with a local repair person.
