LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., July 23 (UPI) -- Canon joins the world of mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras, announcing its EOS M, a cross between a point-and-shoot and a digital, single-lens reflex.
While small in size like a point-and-shoot, the EOS M uses a full DSLR sensor and the ability to use both its own line of interchangeable lenses and, with a $200 adapter, the full line of Canon's EF and EF-S lenses, the company said on its Web site.
The camera features an 18-megapixel APS-C sensor, a DIGIC 5 image processor and auto-focus technology.
Video capability is included, with the EOS M offering a full HD setting shooting 1080p video at up to 30 frames per second.
"The camera's size, image quality, advanced video capabilities and the versatility of Canon's full lineup of lenses make the EOS M another great option to help our customers record and capture their creative vision," said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.
The EOS M with EF-M 22mm f/2 STM kit lens will be available in October at $799.99 retail, Canon said.
