MOSCOW, May 10 (UPI) -- The Russian president's Web site was shut down by a group calling itself Russian Anonymous, officials say.

The site, Kremlin.ru, was shut down for nearly an hour at 11 a.m. Wednesday, shortly after which the group claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said it was done in solidarity with the Russian political opposition.

Interfax reported a spokesperson for the Kremlin's Internet service said other government sites were under attack as well.

On the eve of the inauguration of Vladimir Putin, The Moscow Times reported, Russian Anonymous posted a video threatening to hack government sites, saying it would help protesters break "false government sites."
