Maxime Brown, 25, was arrested at his home Monday and later released on bail after being charged with uttering death threats against Quebec Premier Jean Charest, CTV News reported.
Brown is under orders to stay at least 200 meters (about 1,000 feet), from Charest's home and workplace, as well as the school the premier's children attend, the network said. He is banned from owning guns, participating in student political rallies, or using or owning a computer with Internet access.
Brown came to the attention of authorities after he allegedly posted a video Sunday under the name "Max Cube," in which he appeared with a sword and expressed a desire to kill Charest and his family, CTV said.
