TGI Friday's to go with phone payments

CARROLLTON, Texas, April 30 (UPI) -- TGI Friday's says it will begin letting customers pay their check using their iPhone or Android smartphones with a downloadable app.

The special app for the restaurant is available on the App Store and Google Play, and -- unlike near-field communication, or NFC -- the system does not require TGI Friday's to have special credit card readers, nor does it require the user to have an NFC-capable phone, TG Daily reported.

The customer will enter a credit card number in the app, which will then produce a five-digit code to be given to the server to be tied to the user's meal check.

The app will display a running total, and when the customer is ready it can be paid off, using the credit card to cover the charge.

About 350 TGI Friday's locations, out of about 650 nationwide, will offer the mobile payment option, the company said.
