Eni and state energy company KazMunayGas also discussed development in the Isatay and Shagala areas in the Kazakh waters of the Caspian Sea.

Developments during the Astana meeting highlighted the terms of an energy agreement signed between Nazarbayev and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi during a November meeting in Rome.

Kazakhstan produces about 1.4 billion barrels of oil per day. Proven natural gas reserves total 100 trillion cubic feet.

Eni said to expect further updates on Kazakh developments by the end of the year.
