Missouri set for its largest wind farm

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Missouri aims to move forward with efforts to meet 15 percent of its energy demand with renewable resources through a 100-turbine wind farm.

General Electric intends to supply and service 100 of its 1.5 megawatt wind turbines to the Lost Creek wind project in DeKalb County, Mo.

Wind Capital Group, a leader in wind energy firm in the U.S. Midwest, is working on the largest wind project in Missouri. The wind farm will produce enough electricity to power more than 50,000 homes, or about 150 MW per year.

"This marks our first project with Wind Capital Group, an innovative company that shares our commitment to help the United States develop its vast wind energy potential," said Victor Abate, vice president of renewables for GE Power & Water.

Missouri through a clean air initiative aims to provide 15 percent of its energy needs with renewable resources by 2021.

The wind turbines are scheduled for delivery over the next year. Power generated from the Lost Creek wind farm is sold under a 20-year purchase agreement with Associated Electric Cooperative, a regional energy wholesaler.
