GEORGE TOWN, Australia, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Rolls-Royce announced its first Trent 60 low-emission gas turbine package went into service for the electricity grid in the Australian island state of Tasmania.
The company describes its Trent 60 engine as its most powerful and most efficient turbine product. Each unit delivers up to 64 MW of electric power at 42 percent efficiency.
The Tasmanian project supplies 58 MW of electric power for the regional energy grid for provisional, emergency or peak use.
Rolls-Royce says the Trent 60 engine meets the long-term environmental and emissions objectives of the Australian and Tasmanian governments.
"The Trent 60 gas turbine power generation package will deliver an efficient and low emission source of electricity for the local community over the long term," said Tony Davis, regional director for Rolls-Royce.
The company said its Trent 60 power generation units are installed throughout the Pacific region.
