Exxon Mobil awards nine green grants

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. and the National Communication Action Foundation teamed up to award $4 million in grants to improve energy efficiency for low-income houses.

Exxon Mobil and the NCAF through their weatherization training partnership program awarded $4 million in grants to nine U.S. communities to improve energy efficiency.

A board selected proposals from communities from Virginia to Oregon based on their ability to train workers in the weatherization of low-income homes under guidelines outlined in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"Exxon Mobil is committed to improving energy efficiency in our own operations and around the world, and today's grants will extend that commitment to communities in America," said Sherman Glass, president of Exxon Mobil Refining and Supply Co.

The grants vary from $300,000 to nearly $1 million, Exxon Mobil said.
