UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced plans to speak to leaders in Britain and Greece on the global challenges presented by climate change.

Ban heads to London and Athens next week to discuss climate change ahead of a December conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, to address a new international climate regime set to replace the Kyoto Protocol.

Ban on Tuesday delivers the keynote address at Windsor Castle to discuss the role that key leaders can play in addressing climate-change challenges, the United Nations announced.

The secretary-general also plans to meet with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Brown said last week that world leaders must seize the opportunity in December to enact new legislation to control global climate change before it is "irretrievably too late."

Ban follows his trip to London with a visit with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and President Karolos Papoulias in Athens to address the third Global Forum on Migration and Development.
