Presidential Climate Action plan released

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Presidential Climate Action Project released its plan to revitalize the economy, protect the environment and enhance national security.

Former U.S. Sen. Gary Hart, a member of the PCAP advisory committee, announced that despite the current economy, the United States is entering a "new era" of job growth and national security if leaders can respond effectively to energy supply issues.

"PCAP is a blueprint to a new energy economy that is not only possible, but practical and profitable," said Ray Anderson, chairman of PCAP and founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Interface Inc. "We have reduced our carbon footprint at Interface by 82 percent and our fossil fuel energy intensity use by 60 percent, and we are thriving."

The plan calls for an increase in federal investment in clean energy technologies; a 30 percent reduction of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and 50 percent reduction of oil consumption by 2020; a CAFE standard of 50 miles per gallon by 2025 and no new conventional coal plants.
