Wales could lead in emissions reduction

CARDIFF, Wales, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Wales could become a world leader in emissions reduction, according to American inventor Alex Wormser.

Wormser met with U.K. Energy Minister Mike O'Brien recently to discuss his technique for cleaning up coal-fired power plants, the Western Mail reported.

For one example, Wormser said he could help the coal plant at Aberthaw to cut its carbon emissions by 40 percent.

Wormser said he believes mild coal gasification can quickly achieve emissions reductions and allow use of abundant coal resources while appeasing environmentalists.

Instead of coal, the U.K. has begun to rely more heavily on natural gas, which has less emissions that coal but costs more.
